How Does Spiritual Psychology Help You Find Your Purpose?
Sep 11, 2026
Have you asked yourself what you are actually here to do, and gotten quiet instead of an answer?
Spiritual Psychology finds purpose by starting with your relationship to yourself, not a list of outward options. It treats your unresolved struggles and your gifts as two halves of the same spiritual curriculum: once an old, exiled part of you is healed, purpose stops being a question to solve and becomes something you simply recognize.
Why Does Purpose Feel So Hard to Commit To?
Purpose is one of the questions clients bring me most, and it is usually not because they have no ideas. Most people I work with have several ideas. What they do not have is a felt sense of their own worth apart from what they produce, and without that foundation, no idea ever feels like quite enough to commit to. Spiritual Psychology, the discipline I trained in at the University of Santa Monica, teaches that the soul uses every experience in a human life, the joyful ones and the painful ones alike, as material for its own awakening. Your unresolved issues and your gifts are not separate categories. Both are part of what USM calls your spiritual curriculum, the specific combination of struggles to move through and contributions to offer that only you carry in exactly this way.
Why Does Purpose Work Start on the Inside?
This is why purpose work has to start on the inside rather than the outside. Most approaches to finding your purpose ask you to look outward, at your skills, your options, the market, what people would pay for. Spiritual Psychology asks a different question first. It asks what relationship you actually have with yourself, underneath all of that. The relationship you are seeking on the outside, whether that is the right work, the right recognition, or the right sense of contribution, begins with the relationship you have cultivated with yourself first. When that foundation shifts, what you are drawn to do in the world shifts with it, often without you having to force an answer at all.
What Keeps People Feeling Behind on Their Purpose?
I see this constantly with clients who come to me feeling behind on purpose, as though everyone else got a clear download and they alone are still guessing. What is usually true is that they are still filtering their own gifts through an old, exiled part of themselves that never felt qualified to have them. Once that part is met and healed, purpose stops being a question you have to solve intellectually. It becomes something you recognize, because you are finally seeing yourself clearly enough to notice what has been asking for your attention all along.
How Are Your Struggles and Your Gifts Connected?
Your spiritual curriculum includes both what has been unresolved in you and what you came here to offer, and those two things are usually much closer together than people expect. The very struggle you have worked hardest to move through is often the exact thing that lets you meet someone else in theirs. This is true of my own path. The years I spent healing my own conditioning, learning to heal the inner child underneath my choices and finally leave behind what no longer served me, became the foundation of the work I now do helping other people do the same. Purpose was never separate from my healing. It was built from it.
What Else Do People Ask About Finding Your Purpose?
What is spiritual curriculum?
Spiritual curriculum is the specific combination of struggles to move through and contributions to offer that only you carry, the material your soul uses for its own awakening.
Do I need to know my skills and options to find my purpose?
Most people already have several ideas. What is usually missing is a felt sense of their own worth apart from what they produce, and that foundation comes first.
Can my own healing become my purpose?
Often, yes. The struggle you have worked hardest to move through is often the exact thing that lets you meet someone else in theirs. My own purpose was built from my healing.
If you have been searching outward for your purpose and coming up with a list of options instead of a felt sense of direction, this may be why. Growing past old conditioning and finally changing your outer life for good starts on the inside, as I describe in what Spiritual Psychology actually is, and once you have done real work there, purpose tends to stop being a question and start being a recognition.
